Sarvodaya emergency response continues for the third-day

Three days after the dark Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka the total death toll has reached 359, with more than 450 injured. The funerals are happening in the surroundings of the Negombo City in the Gampaha district and in the suburbs of the Colombo, in the Colombo district. The Emergency Meeting today at 9am at Sarvodaya Headquarters was attended by Sarvodaya senior officials, representatives of few Civil Society Organizations and volunteers representing different sectors with the leadership of Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, the Hony. President of Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement.  

In addition to the visits and support to the diseased and injured families in both districts, Sarvodaya-Colombo with the support of Sarvodaya Development Finance Ltd. engaged in a humanitarian mission to support the families, and loved ones of the diseased who are coming to identify the dead bodies and to take the bodies home from the Police Mortuary Colombo, and the volunteers supporting the process, with the refreshments, and meals. The operation will continue for the third day tomorrow.

Sarvodaya Vishvanikethan will be in Katuwapitiya village tomorrow with a group of trained counselors and nuns of a leading catholic girls school in Colombo, led by Dr. Charika Marasinghe to assess the psychosocial situation and to provide counseling to the affected individuals and families. 

Meanwhile Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena, the youth peace brigades has convened a meeting tomorrow in Colombo with the participation of clergy from few districts around the country to highlight their commitment for non-violent resolutions, and also to create Road Map respecting all religious and faith groups. The meeting will decide on further inter-faith engagements to create peace and coexistence amidst the tensions at different levels.
