Sarvodaya-AJJDC Community Disaster Management Center trains its first batch of Emergency Rescue Team in deep water rescue

Sarvodaya-AJJDC Community Disaster Management Center organized and successfully implemented a  comprehensive training course recently in deep water rescue and life saving to its first batch of Emergency Rescue Team with collaboration of Sri Lanka Red Cross Gampaha Branch. 38 youth volunteers from the Colombo district and Sarvodaya staff took part in the training in Negombo Beach Park. 

Mr. Manoj de Silva, the coordinator of the Sarvodaya-AJJDC Community Disaster Management Center stated that the team will be trained in first-aid and fire safety in time to come. The team will act as first responders in community based disaster events in Colombo district. This community based disaster responsive model will be expanded in to other districts after assessing the needs of respective districts.

The programme was made a success with the financial assistance of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (AJJDC).
