Transparency International Sri Lanka in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies, Center for Policy Alternatives and Sarvodaya have organized a donor forum, to address key issues of accountability in respect of Tsunami related aid and to generate a joint commitment from civil society and the donors agencies and governments, in this regard.
In the wake of widespread concerns of corruption and misappropriation of aid money flowing, Transparency International Sri Lanka has already initiated civil society debate and has developed a civil society action plan with a view to protecting these funds against corruption. This forum is a first step in the development of an national anti-corruption strategy in handling foreign aid in this situation.
Our expectations of this forum are as follows:
- Appraise of the ground realities of accountability and transparency in aid money
- Appraisal of measures already taken by Donors, Civil Society and Governments for ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Joint consensus/ commitment effort to follow the aid
