A friend of Sarovdaya, Professor Patrick Mendis, was featured in an article on the Norwich University website.
As a child growing up in Sri Lanka, he worked with the Sarvodaya movement led by Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne, the Gandhi of Sri Lanka. Naturally he decided to help the tsunami victims through Sarvodaya. Dr. Ari’s influence on his life is profiled in the book , Stone Soup for the World: Life-Changing Stories of Everyday Heroes by Marianne Larned � with a forward by Walter Cronkite.
Founded in 1958 as a youth service and leadership development movement, Sarvodaya is a term Gandhi used for “awakening of all.” Located in over 11,000 villages, the Sarvodaya is the largest grass-root development and humanitarian organization in the world.
