Northern Emergency Humanitarian Relief
There has been a mass exodus of civilians escaping from the war zone in the Mullaitivu District during the last few days resulting in an emergency situation in the Vavuniya district where Sarvodaya has been providing humanitarian relief services for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) during the last 4 months supplementing the efforts of the government, UN agencies and the International humanitarian organizations.

Providing Water and Sanitation
Sarvodaya works with various partner organizations to provide water and sanitation services to the IDP camps. This includes drinking water, bathing water, latrines and basic health and hygiene services. For more information see our post on Northern Emergency Humanitarian Relief.

Feeding The Displaced
Sarvodaya packs and distributes cooked food to those internally displaced by Sri Lanka’s war. Since there are already Sarvodaya villages in the region, those villagers also help their neighbors, in the spirit of shramadana, Sri Lankans working to help themselves.
