Woodwork and Exports Unit

The Sarvodaya Woodwork Unit emerged from a Rural Development Programme conducted in 1971 for underprivileged and unemployed youth in Sri Lankan villages. Training was offered in metal, woodwork, batik handicrafts and clothing production. It is one of the Social Enterprising arms of Sarvodaya which produces high quality, lead-free painted wooden pre-school educational equipment, recreational items, and furniture.

Raw materials

Seasoned rubber wood and MDF board (made from rubber wood) painted with non-toxic / lead-free paints used to meet the International Standards for wooden toys.

Why Wooden Toys are better

They are safe, durable and cause less waste than plastic toys. Eco-friendly wooden toys do not contain harmful chemicals like PVC, phthalates, or other commonly used chemicals. There is an increasing demand for these from both local and foreign buyers.
