The Second National Deshodaya Forum Assembly was recently held in the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo with the participation of more than 1,600 Deshodaya members across the country. The Second National Deshodaya Forum Assembly on the 04th of August 2014 followed the First National Deshodaya Forum Assembly in March 2011 and 26 District Deshodaya Forum Assemblies ever since in each administrative district in Sri Lanka. Presently the Deshodaya (Awakening the Nation) is a broad people’s movement, committed to good governance system and reconciliation in Sri Lanka, with more than 12,000 registered members, addressing consciousness, economy and power spheres of the individuals and the society.
Five prominent speakers were invited to address the Second National Deshodaya Forum Assembly and discussion session followed moderated by Mr. Nalaka Gunawardane. The speakers included Most Venerable Prof. Bellanwila Wimalaratne Thero, the Chancellor of University of Sri Jayewardenepura and Viharadhikari, Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya; Dr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne P.C.; Prof. Sarath Wijesooriya, Senior Lecturer, Sinhala Division, University of Colombo; Mr. Upul Jayasuriya, Attorney-at-Law, the President of the BASL; and Mr. Damma Dissanayake, Sn. Lecturer, Department of Political Science and Public Policy, University of Colombo.
