Sarvodaya Suwasetha

The Suwasetha is Sarvodaya’s programme of health, nutrition, general care and rehabilitation for disadvantaged groups. It includes orphans, senior citizens, the homeless, and the physically and mentally handicapped.

The overriding objective of Suwasetha is to improve the general condition, standard of living, and quality of life of the most disadvantaged and neglected human beings in Sri Lanka.

The programme focuses on…
* Rendering service to the people who are affected by the violence of the North and East
* Rehabilitation of youth held in detention camps
* Providing residential care for orphans, the physically handicapped, senior citizens
* Establishing a nutritional feeding programme for malnourished children
* Providing health care for rural communities
* Vocational training for young women who are physically handicapped
* Implementing community based physical rehabilitation programmes for physically handicapped and visually impaired.

There is a wide range of specific services provided by the Suwasetha including a Home for the Elderly in Ratmalana, an Orphanage and a School for the hearing impaired in Moratuwa, a Medical Clinic and Relief Programme for Refugees in Trincomalee and Batticaloa, Vocational Training Centres for Physically Handicapped Girls in Kalutara and Moratuwa, and Mobile Medical Clinic and Eyecare Programmes in the Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Batticoloa and Monaragala Districts.
As can be seen from the above, the Suwasetha works throughout the island with a variety of different groups of people.
