International Health University, jointly with Sarvodaya and Health Action International-Asia Pacific (HAIAP), kicked off a 9 day long training ‘the Struggle for Health’ at Sarvodaya Headquarters in Moratuwa on August 8th. Sarvodaya was hosting 53 young health activists from 22 countries and 25 Sri Lankan People’s Health Movement activists for this training. The IPHU aims to bring together the young activists who are working on the issues of health, gender, and human rights, and strengthen the global network of diverse health activist community and share experiences. This training provided the opportunities to review the difficult realities of growing health inequities, the past practice strategy and achievements of grass root organizations, and the political economy of health. The training also explored new directions to bring the ‘right to health’ to all communities. All the activists working for civil organizations in Sri Lanka were invited to join the final discussion meeting with the training participants and steering committee members at 2pm on the last day of the training.
