Sarvodaya and Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) signs MOU for reconstruction 100 houses in Trincomallee

Today, April 20, Sarvodaya and the Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution signed the Memorandum of Understanding for reconstructing the village of Samudragama in the district of Trincomalee. Approximately 100 houses will be constructed with the financial support of the Austrian Province of Burgenland. The reconstruction of Samudragama, a Sinhala village is part of the conflict sensitive reconstruction project, which Sarvodaya, in cooperation with the Institute for Integrative Conflict Transformation and Peace-building (IICP), the ASPR and Kurieir Aid Austria which envisages in addition, the reconstruction of a Tamil and Muslim village in the Eastern province and an inter-ethnic community resource center in Trincomalee.

Dr.Gerard Mader, the President of ASPR and Dr.Vinya Ariyaratne, Executive Director of Sarvodaya signed the MOU at Stadtschlaining, Austria, in the presence of Dr.Ernst Bocskor, Coordinator for Tsunami Relief for the Provincial Government of Burgenland.
