The partners and employees of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Germany, having heard of the catastrophe of the tsunami of December 2004 and the terrible consequences that followed were spontaneous with a wish to help those affected. They launched a “People Who Care” project and collectively mobilized one million Euro and decided to help in concrete projects involving education and development of Children in all the affected countries.

In Sri Lanka, PwC Germany selected Sarvodaya as their partner based on their experience, especially in the context of the facilitation support of Sarvodaya Germany. Having reviewed several options, PwC Germany selected a project to provide the girls of the Sarvodaya Suwasetha in Kosgama, with a new home that is comparable with the best in the region. The new facilities to be constructed and equipped at a cost of 200,000 Euro will ensure a better future for these socially disadvantaged children providing them with the best residential care for holistic development through quality education and vocational skills training which will facilitate their reintegration and mainstreaming into society. The home with pleasant landscaping will have modern dormitory facilities for living, areas for sports and recreation, a multimedia centre, a vocational centre, e-libray, and a performing arts theatre facility.
