Sarvodaya has been running the Rehabilitation and Day Care Centre for the Street Children in Borella, in Colombo for the last 20 years, under the Sarvodaya welfare arm Sarvodaya Suwasetha Sewa Society.
Through out the years it has catered and accommodated hundreds of children, and even today more than 40 vulnerable children of different age groups starting from pre-school age to teenagers are taken care of by the Sarvodaya Rehabilitation and Day Care Canter for Street Children in Borella. The Centre is located adjoining to the Buddhist Temple, and the de facto land dispute with the temple has put the entire operation of the Centre at risk.
Sarvodaya is now seeking legal action to safeguard the rights of the underserved street children who are accommodated in the Rehabilitation and Day Care Centre for the Street Children in Borella. Sarvodaya is confident that the legal system will serve justice to the matter, and the rights of these underserved children would be protected.
