New British High Commissioner Visits Sarvodaya Headquarters

The new British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka His Excellency Dominick Chilcott accompanied by his wife Mrs.Jane Chilcott, visited the Sarvodaya Headquarters on 8th May 2006 with a delegation from the British Council Colombo. The British Council delegation was led by its present Director in Sri Lanka Mr.Tony O’Brien and the incoming Director Ms.Gillian Westway (currently Director of the British Council in the Philippines), Ms.Ranmali Mirchandani, the Arts Manager and Ms.Sanjeewani Munasinghe, the Projects and Training Coordinator.

The Sarvodaya Leader and President Dr.A.T.Ariyaratne and the members of the senior management of Sarvodaya welcomed the Delegation and provided detailed explanations on the various programmes and activities of Sarvodaya. The High Commissioner and the British delegation visited various Sarvodaya Units which included the Field Operations Division, the Peace Secretariat, Information and Communication Unit, the Central Library, Tsunami 5R Unit, the Suwasetha Children’s Home and the Vishva Niketan Peace Centre.

Sarvodaya and the British Council Sri Lanka will explore closer cooperation in implementing projects related to education and culture.
