Workshop on Capacity Building of Telecentre Operators in Sri Lanka
A National Workshop on capacity building of Sri Lankan Telecentre Operators and Encourage an Exchange of Ideas on Experience Gained while Running the Centres On 26th and 27th September 2005 at the Vishva Samadhi Hall, Sarvodaya Headquarters. The opening ceremony will be held at 9.00 a.m. on 26th September 2005 With the Country Director of ADB (Asian Development Bank) Mr.Alessandro Pio as the Chief Guest
Sarvodaya Shramadana Sangamaya and the Information and Communications Technology Agency (ICTA) are organizing a workshop to train telecentre operators from throughout the island. Telecentre.org, a collaborative initiative of IDRC and Microsoft are sponsoring this workshop.
Telecentres are the only windows to Information Communication Technology in many parts of the country. These are run by Telecentre operators, who are trained to disperse this information. Titled “Networking Grassroots, ICT for People” the workshop will provide a platform for these operators to share their experiences, table their problems, and seek solutions as a group. The program also aims to develop the capabilities of the operators.
A third of the participants will be Sarvodaya Telecentre or Village Information Centre operators while there will also be a substantial number of operators from the Nanasala program, the telecentre scheme run by the ICTA. A number of participants are from other organizations such as the Department of Agriculture, the Ministry of Media and Communications, and Artha Charya Padanama, and there will also be IDRC operators.
The workshop will be held on the 26th and 27th of September at the Sarvodaya Headquarters at Rawatawatte Road , Moratuwa. It will be a residential program and all participants will be provided with food and traveling expenses as well as lodging at the headquarters.
