Balapitiya Community Arts & Cultural Centre

Balapitiya Community Arts & Cultural Centre (Balapitiya)
Opening December 2006

Watch children who survived the Tsunami perform traditional Southern dance, music and drama in an open-air amphitheatre at this new community centre. Visit the cafeteria to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan snacks and juices, made by local villagers, plus the chance to purchase locally made handicrafts.

This project is generously funded by the Give2Asia Chefs without Borders Fund. The amphitheatre is located on the same site as the new Multi-Purpose Community Centre which will offer the local villagers a Pre-School, vocational skills learning centre, library, IT centre, Village Bank, healthcare diagnostics advice and community centre. This ‘MPCC’ is funded by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

The Balapitiya Community Arts & Cultural Centre is located on Galle Road between Bentota and Hikkaduwa. Driving south, as you leave Balapitiya town you will pass the Base Hospital; the amphitheatre is on your left as you round the next corner.
