Mirissa Women’s Handicrafts Market (Mirissa, between Galle and Matara)
Every Saturday from 28th October 2006 up to end-April, the Mirissa Sarvodaya Shramadana Society will hold a handicrafts market between 10am and 4pm. There is an opportunity to purchase hand-made bags, jewellery, lace, clothing, traditional sweets and snacks, all made and sold by the ladies in the village. There is an entry fee of Rs.100/- per person (aged 12 and over) and this includes a cultural performance by local children at 11am each Saturday.
The location is on Paradise Road, on the beach side of the Galle-Matara road, approximately 10kms before Matara. It is directly opposite the Calm Rest Guesthouse and Restaurant, whose owner, Mr Edwin Silva, has generously donated use of his land free of charge.
